Les récits de ces femmes qui ont résisté à l'arbitraire et à l'asservissement coloniaux pendant la domination allemande au Cameroun, de 1884 à 1916, sont peu documentés et donc souvent méconnus. Cette méconnaissance conduit souvent à penser que la résistance anticoloniale est et a toujours été purement masculine en cette période-là.
Or, les traditions orales font parfois référence à des femmes qui aidèrent leurs maris à échapper au travail forcé en chantant ou en prononçant des discours pour les avertir. Cependant, les femmes ont également joué un rôle de premier plan dans la résistance, comme en témoigne le cas d'Adda Nkollo. Originaire de Mvog-Ada, aujourd’hui quartier de la capitale Yaoundé, Adda Nkollo a mené une résistance si efficace contre l'administration coloniale allemande en 1907 qu'elle a finalement dû être exilée.
Son histoire permet de remettre en question l'invisibilité généralisée des femmes résistantes sous le colonialisme allemand et de mieux documenter l'histoire de la résistance au colonialisme au Cameroun de manière générale.
