»Dekoloniale [Re]visions« is a series of think tanks, lectures and panels in which we invite experts from various disciplines to reflect on and discuss different aspects and functions of (de)central places of commemoration, documentation, learning or memory in the critical engagement with colonialism and in the appreciation of anti-colonial resistance.

This edition of the Dekoloniale [Re]visions think tank deals with architectural and urban planning approaches for sites of learning and remembrance, using the examples of Togo/ West Africa and the USA. The architect and cultural scientist Tazalika M. te Reh provides insights into New York's Black memoryscapes. The architect, anthropologist and fablab founder Sénamé Koffi Agbodjinou presents a.o. the »Maison Gbébé«, which is to be built in Aguegan, Togo. How can we here in Berlin and Germany learn from existing places in the transatlantic region and ensure that places of remembrance here have a meaningful connection with the former colonies?

The basic premise of the Dekoloniale [Re]visions think tank series is the demand for a site of learning and remembrance in the historical center of colonial Berlin, in the immediate vicinity of the site where the Berlin Conference took place in 1884/85. But such memory-cultural spaces should also be created beyond central Berlin – ideally in other areas of Berlin, other cities in Germany as well as in the former German colonies – places that should all resonate with one another. In accordance with this premise, transnational exchange and reciprocal knowledge transfer is an integral part of the Dekoloniale [Re]visions think tanks.
