»Stand in Solidarity! Black Resistance and Global Anti-Colonialism in Berlin, 1919 - 1933«
On the evening of September 14th, together with the Museum Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf, we will open the Dekoloniale joint exhibition 2023. The exhibition addresses the political organization of diasporic communities as well as the experiences and limits of transnational solidarity in the environment of the Communist International. In the comparatively cosmopolitan capital of the Weimar Republic, the Communist International had its Western European center. Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf was the district where most activists and exiles could be found.
Greetings: Nadja Ofuatey-Alazard (Dekoloniale festival director and subdivision director of Dekoloniale in[ter]ventions), Heike Hartmann (director of the Museum Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf), Bebero Lehmann (curatorial director of the exhibition, subproject coordinator of Dekoloniale [hi]stories and representation[s])
Dialogues with: Danielle Rosales (Visual Intelligence), Dominique Eyidi (descendant of Joseph Ekwe Bilé), Abenaa Adomako (descendant of Louis Brody/M'bebe Mpessa)
Music by: The String Archestra under the direction of Dr. Daniele G. Daude
Performance by: Jere Ikongo (aka J-NOK)
Sounds from the South - A circular journey sound performance
The set will transport you on a journey through the diverse and vibrant rhythms of African liberation movements - from spiritual chants to monumental speeches and timeless rhythm. Drawing on influences from the south and west of the continent, taking you on a musical adventure that explores the intersections of spirituality, hyper-identity, fusion, and African rhythm while highlighting the impacts of sounds from the global south. An expression of transmutations, identity, culture, history, the present and the future.
