The African-American lesbian poet and activist Audre Lorde (1934–1992) often stayed in Kreuzberg between 1984 and 1992. Here she was politically active, for example by giving readings and networking with women, for example in the Schokofabrik and in the Kato.
In February 2019, the district council of Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg decided to name a street after Audre Lorde. Based on a citizen survey, they chose the northern section of Manteuffelstrasse. The street now honors Audre Lorde.
We cordially invite you to the inauguration of the street and a memorial sign for Audre Lorde on June 28, 2024 at 5 p.m.
