November 15 marks the 136th anniversary of the start of the Berlin Africa Conference. On the occasion of this date, the Dekoloniale Memory Culture in the City project convenes the Dekoloniale Berlin Africa Conference. The event will be broadcast live from the project space at Wilhelmstraße 92 in Berlin-Mitte. The project space at Wilhelmstraße 92 is located between the former locations of the Reich Chancellery and the Foreign Office, the scenes of the events at the time. The envoys of the European powers, the USA and the Ottoman Empire met in the Reich Chancellery in 1884 at the invitation of the German Empire and the Republic of France to agree on the rules for the colonial division of the continent and thus also on the exploitation of Africa.
While at the historic Africa Conference 19 white men balanced their colonial interests on the African continent over a period of four months, we would now like to convene an anti-colonial panel consisting of 19 women of African origin. The Dekoloniale Berlin Africa Conference is both the foreword and the start of Dekoloniale of Memory Culture in the City .
