Installation by Dekoloniale Resident Gladys Kalichini
"Baroque/Seeing with Shut Eyes" is an installation of textured fabrics draped around lanterns at the entrance to the zoo, the path to the castle. The installation refers to the architectural style known as Baroque and conceptualizes ideas about ' grandeur' and the staging of spectacles in relation to German colonial narratives. In the Baroque period, details, contrasts, movement and colors were deliberately used to create a grandiose impression. This project reflects colonialism as a complexly designed and articulated undertaking of displacement.
