Colonialism in Bremen city center – Germany
City Tours
Ohiniko Mawussé Toffa, 2024
There are various traces of colonial history in Bremen's city center, which reflect the interplay of many factors that contributed to the colonial exploitation of Africa, Asia and the Pacific Islands and the associated rise of Bremen as a trading city.
The stops on this tour mark the nodes of colonial contexts, which result from the influence of individual merchants, missionary work and the trade in colonial goods. This includes the monument to Reich Chancellor Otto von Bismarck, the cotton exchange and Böttcherstrasse, the Hachez & Co. chocolate delicatessen and the headquarters of the North German Missionary Society.
