B'net Rahal, 2023
After decades of criticism from Black/African actors and solidarity organizations, Nachtigalplatz and Lüderitzstraße in Berlin's “African Quarter” were renamed on December 2, 2022. The film documentary "Uhuru Amani Umoja" by B'net Rahal interviews five activists about the history of the district, the culture of remembrance in Germany and the significance of renaming streets in the sense of a critical remembrance of German colonial history. She reports on the African resistance against the Germans and captures the ceremonial renaming ceremonies in the “African Quarter” on camera.
